DIY Wine Cork Coaster Instructions

Boil Wine Corks

Take your wine corks and put them in a boiling pot of water. This will help sterilize your corks, while expanding them back to their natural shape. Leave corks in boiling water for 10 minutes.

Cut Corks in Half

Next, take your tongs and remove one wine cork out of the boiling water at a time. Using your towel, remove the excess water from the corks. Place your wine cork on the cutting board and use your knife to cut the wine cork in half lengthwise.

TIP: If you are using a cork for its design, pay close attention to where you are cutting, so that the design faces up when you glue the cork down.

Cut the remaining corks one by one. They are easier to cut and there is little to no flaking if they are still hot.

Create Pattern & Glue Corks

Next, arrange the cut corks in a square pattern on your cork tile. Place 2 sets horizontally and 2 sets vertically on top of the cork tile to create your pattern. Once you like your pattern, take your hot glue gun and glue them down.
