The Fall Of The House Of Usher – Netflix
Are you sad that Halloween has come and gone? Still in a spooky mood? Well Netflix premiered “The Fall Of The House Of Usher” last month and it is spooky! The show follows the Usher family who own a powerful pharmaceutical company. Rather than focus on their family, they prioritize power and wealth due to their selfishness. Each episode is themed after an Edgar Allan Poe story such as The Tell Tale Heart or Goldbug and we see what befalls each of the Usher heirs.
Need a wine to drink while watching? Have a glass of The Rookery Red Zinfandel! With the ominous look of the Rook on the label, this bottle is a great choice to compliment the Raven in the show. This wine was crafted by the well-known winemaker, William “Bill” Knuttel. Grown in the vineyards of Lodi, California, this Zinfandel is a powerhouse, just like the Usher family. The Rookery is full of blackberry and raspberry flavors with undertones of plum and subtle oak aromas. The wine is full-bodied but with smooth tannins and will pair well with any stew you’ll be making in this chilly weather.
Loki Season 2 – Disney Plus
Loki on Disney Plus has just finished its second season and it got tense! Loki is running out of time as the fallout from the first season is evident. The timelines are branching off and alternate realities are spreading, meanwhile “He Who Remains” is the menacing villain for this next phase in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Have a bottle of Time Waits For No One to see if time will wait for Loki.
Produced by Ioana Paunescu of Finca Bacara, this is a hidden gem of Spain. Found in the arid, southeast region of Spain; Jumilla is the oldest wine region in Murcia. Jumilla specializes in Monastrell wines. Also known as Mourvèdre in France, Monastrell is known to produce wines full in body and with strong tannins. Typical aromas include blackberry, plum, black cherry and cocoa. The grape is usually found in blends like in the Rhône Valley where it is blended with Grenache and Syrah. Ioana chose to do a regional style but did a single varietal bottling to produce this wonderful Cabernet substitute. Try it with a hearty steak or a juicy hamburger.
The Lady Bird Diaries – Hulu
The Lady Bird Diaries is already garnering many positive reviews. This documentary is a compilation of over 120 hours of audio diaries from Lady Bird Johnson, wife to President Lyndon B. Johnson. She started these diaries after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in 1963. The viewer is shown much deeper depths to the First Lady’s political savvy and personal causes that made her such a complex and compelling historical figure. Just like Lady Bird, the Visionario Bianco is just as complex.
Visionario Bianco is a white blend produced by Alessandro Gallici. He produces several of favorite Italian white wines including the Vina Baccana Pinot Grigio and his Proseccos. The Visionario is a blend based on the legendary wine Terre Alte. Friulano, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Gewurztraminer meld together to make a complex blend that has green apple, citrus, melon and layers of secondary aromas. You’ll find unique aromas like spice, almonds, and floral notes. Just like the wine, Lady Bird Johnson was a complex individual with many layers to her.
