The Best Wines for Gift Giving During the Holiday Season
Holidays and wine go together like champagne and strawberries. With company dinners, cocktail parties, and everything in between, it’s hard to know what kind of wine will please everyone and which wines to pair with holiday meals. That’s where we come in! We’ve put together a list of some of the most versatile wine varietals, as well as tried and true customer favorites.
Pinot Noir
Highly acidic with medium to low levels of tannins, Pinot Noir is generally a universal crowd pleaser. It’s relatively light on the wine scale and bursting with ripe fruit and slight undertones of spice. Oregon produces a Pinot Noir that’s leaner than grapes grown in the cool, lush areas of Monterey, Sonoma, and the Russian River Valley. However, all Pinot Noir is easily drinkable with a variety of foods ranging from seafood to poultry, or game meat to pasta. It isn’t called the Noble Grape for no reason!
Cellar Collection Recommendations
Big Bad Pinot Noir
Grace Bridge Pinot Noir
Les Allies Burgundy Pinot Noir
Red Blends
Blends are the perfect wine to appease any palate because they’re just that: a blend. One grape varietal doesn’t overpower another, and they’re versatile to food pairings as well. Look at the varietals listed on the bottle (if available). Grapes such as Petit Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Touriga Naçional are heavier bodied blends, while Pinot Noir, Grenache and Gamay will be lighter. GSM (Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre) is a popular blend; its blend consists of both heavy and light grapes, giving it a nice balance with a smooth, medium to full body.

Sauvignon Blanc
White wine has an astounding level of versatility. Bright and acidic, this varietal will generally pair with a great variety of foods. All foods need a certain amount of acid to balance its flavors, and Sauvignon Blanc (especially from New Zealand) has plenty of that lemon, lime, and grapefruit pop. It will refresh your palate as you eat, and can cut through rich, buttery sauces while not overpowering a delicate fish. Bringing a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc is sure to be a crowd pleaser!

Sparkling Wine
Sparkling is the perfect accompaniment to bring anywhere during the holiday season! It’s elegant, great to enjoy as an apértif, pairs perfectly with so many different cuisines, and is a great way to end a meal as well.
You can’t go wrong with a festive sparkling wine for the holidays. Brut Nature is the driest, while Demi Sec and Sec are the sweetest. Heading to a brunch or casual gathering? Grab your favorite bottle of juice for a mimosa bar.
